Concrete Rodbuster - Dixon Rebar Team

Position Summary

The Rodbuster is responsible for installing reinforcing steel to support the structural integrity of commercial concrete projects. This role involves cutting, bending, tying, placing, and securing rebar according to project specifications, engineering drawings, and safety standards. The Rodbuster works closely with crew members, equipment operators, and supervisors to ensure accurate placement and efficient workflow on the job site. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to perform physically demanding work in varying conditions, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Read and interpret structural drawings, rebar lists, and placement details to ensure accurate installation of reinforcing steel.
  • Cut, bend, place, and secure rebar using hand tools, power tools, and specialized rebar equipment.
  • Tie rebar in accordance with project specifications using various tying techniques (hand tie, pneumatic tools, etc.).
  • Position and secure rebar in forms, using appropriate supports, spacers, and chairs to meet required elevations and spacing.
  • Install post-tension cables, mesh, dowels, and other reinforcement materials as required by project scope.
  • Coordinate with concrete crews and equipment operators to ensure proper workflow and alignment before placement.
  • Perform quality checks to verify correct placement, spacing, and reinforcement counts before concrete pour.
  • Follow all safety protocols and participate in routine safety inspections, hazard identification, and toolbox talks.
  • Operate cutting tools, bending equipment, and rebar tying machines safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assist with general labor tasks as needed to support the crew and maintain project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time daily with a positive attitude, follow punch in and punch out procedures, fill out all necessary daily paperwork correctly.
  • Follow all instructions provided by field leadership to meet daily goals.
  • Follow all company SOP as it relates to tools and formwork use, care, and storage.
  • Be prepared to work outside in all weather.
  • Have the necessary tools on the tool list to perform the work.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 months of experience in commercial rebar installation (rod busting), including cutting, bending, tying, placing, and securing reinforcing steel
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, rebar charts, and placement details with accuracy.
  • Proficient in the use of rebar tying tools, cutters, benders, and other reinforcement-related equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Physical capability to regularly lift, carry, and maneuver materials up to 50 pounds, and up to 80 pounds on occasion.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to job sites, including occasional overnight stays.
  • A valid driver’s license is strongly preferred.
  • Strong attendance record and satisfactory performance evaluations.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to conditions that include weather such as heat and/or humidity and cold, fumes or airborne particles, exposure to dust and asphalt, and moving mechanical parts.

There may be occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Conditions can also include risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment can often be loud.
