Job Description
Job DescriptionThe Certified Medical Technician (CMT) is a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) who is responsible for the medication administration of the assigned nursing unit in long-term care or skilled care facilities. The C.M.T. performs all essential job functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant while ensuring the accurate administration of medications, as directed by nursing administration.
Responsibilities- Able to administer medication by oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, eye or ear routes under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse.
- Maintain medication cart and ensure that storage areas are clean, neat, and appropriately locked.
- Obtain permission from a licensed nurse before administering PRN medication.
- Perform counts of non-narcotic medications with a medication technician or licensed nurse at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Check the supply of medications for each resident and coordinate with nursing staff for any reorder medication needs.
- Take vital signs correctly and report any significant changes in resident condition or vital signs to the Charge Nurse or Supervisor promptly.
- Document medication administered on MAR per facility policy and procedures.
- Work comfortably with frequent interruptions and emotional residents/patients and family members.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.
- Must show CNA-M coursework listed on State of Maine CNA certification.
- Ability to work independently and with flexibility while exhibiting personal integrity.
This position requires the candidate to work the evening shift from 3 PM to 11 PM.
