Job DescriptionMaine
DOT's Regional Environmental Coordinators serve as the primary Environmental Office staff for Regional, Capital, and Maintenance & Operations programs. They are production focused with an emphasis on aiding in project delivery by providing technical, biological, regulatory and process information related to environmental stewardship required by state and federal laws. This position serves maintenance facilities and project staff within Maine
DOT's Region 4 (Office
Location:
Bangor) which encompasses the greater Bangor and downeast area. Variability in day to day job tasks is expected.
- Perform natural resource assessments including wetland identification and stream determinations;
- Coordinate and clearly communicate verbally and in writing within Maine
DOT and with outside agencies, contractors, municipalities and the public; - Apply the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and the Maine Natural Resources Protection Act to Maine
DOT activities; - Provide clear, concise, and informative supporting documentation for permitting and review activities following standard operating procedures;
- Review contractor-prepared Soil Erosion and Water Pollution Control Plans and provide construction technical assistance on Best Management Practices for Erosion and Sedimentation Control;
- General knowledge of Maine
DOT hazardous waste and groundwater quality policies, Maintenance Camp audit participation and M&O applicable trainings such as Green Book training; - Perform basic hydrologic assessments: watershed delineation and basic channel flow determination.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.
