OverviewThe University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) seeks qualified applicants to teach Art History starting in the fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and to developing an innovative curriculum. This position teaches in-person, hybrid (in-person and online components), and Hyflex modalities. The primary location would be Augusta, or potentially the Bangor campus or one of the centers.
UMA offers distance and on-site education across Maine, with a focus on accessible liberal arts and professional programs.
UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, and committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, and to effective use of technology, including distance learning.
Responsibilities- Teach Art History courses in-person, hybrid, and Hyflex modalities (ARH 105:
History of Art & Architecture I, Prehistory – 1400 globally; ARH 106: History of Art & Architecture II, 1400 – Now globally). - Develop and deliver an innovative curriculum and contribute to curriculum development.
- Support student learning and engagement through effective use of technology and instructional strategies.
- Collaborate across disciplines and participate in university activities that connect students with community opportunities.
- Required:
A Ph.D. in any field of Art History. - An active research agenda in a field of specialization.
- Ability to teach ARH 105 and ARH 106.
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Ability to teach additional Art History courses, including topics before 1945, global South, African art, diasporic art, Asian art, art of the Islamic world, cross-cultural thematic courses, and cross-listing with related minors or programs.
- Willingness to engage with community outreach and cross-disciplinary collaboration to connect students with local opportunities (art galleries, archives, museums).
The salary range is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
