Job Description – Steward / Cashier (Kitchen Operations)

Position Summary
The Steward / Cashier – Kitchen Operations is responsible for supporting smooth day-to-day kitchen and food service operations by ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, inventory control, billing accuracy, and cash handling. The role supports practical training kitchens, institutional cafeterias, and hospitality events while maintaining service standards and financial discipline.

Roles & Responsibilities
Kitchen & Service Support
Assist kitchen faculty and chefs during daily operations, practical sessions, and institutional events.
Ensure timely setup and clearance of kitchen, service, and dining areas.
Support food service operations including plating assistance, counter service, and basic service etiquette.
Stewarding & Hygiene
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, crockery, cutlery, and work areas as per hygiene standards.
Follow proper waste segregation, dishwashing, and sanitation procedures.
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and institutional SOPs.
Assist in maintaining clean storage areas, dry stores, and cold storage sections.
Cashier & Billing Operations
Handle billing, cash, UPI, card transactions, and maintain daily sales records accurately.
Generate bills and ensure correct pricing as per approved menus and rates.
Reconcile daily cash collections and submit reports to Accounts/Administration.
Maintain proper documentation of sales, receipts, and vouchers.
Inventory & Stores Coordination
Assist in maintaining inventory records for food items, consumables, and kitchen supplies.
Support stock verification, inward–outward registers, and issue tracking.
Inform supervisors about shortages, damages, or discrepancies in stock.
Follow FIFO and proper storage practices.
Student & Training Support
Assist students during practical kitchen sessions and service operations under faculty supervision.
Guide students on basic service standards, hygiene practices, and operational discipline.
Ensure tools, equipment, and service counters are prepared before practical sessions.
Compliance & Safety
Follow institutional safety guidelines, fire safety norms, and equipment handling procedures.
Report equipment malfunctions, breakages, or safety concerns immediately.
Support audits, inspections, and internal checks related to kitchen and cash operations.
Profile Requirements
Educational Qualifications
SSLC / PUC / Diploma in Hotel Management, Food & Beverage Service, or relevant field preferred
Professional Experience
1–3 years of experience as Steward / Cashier / Service Assistant in a hotel, cafeteria, or institutional kitchen
Prior experience in handling cash, billing systems, or POS software is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene, sanitation, and food service operations
Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and responsibly
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Organized, disciplined, and team-oriented approach
Willingness to work in shifts, weekends, or during institutional events
Language Skills
Working knowledge of English; knowledge of Kannada & Hindi.
