The Legacy Remote Network Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the integration of acquired entities into Optum while maintaining the stability and performance of legacy network environments. This role requires deep technical expertise, solid documentation and communication skills, and the ability to work independently across diverse and complex infrastructures. The engineer will also contribute to platform refreshes, compliance initiatives, and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Integration & Design Lead the design and implementation of network infrastructure for legacy environment integration to Optum
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and minimal business disruption
Operations & Support Maintain and troubleshoot legacy network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless systems
Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical infrastructure and participate in incident response
Standards & Compliance Enforce consistent network standards and ensure compliance with Optum security policies
Support vulnerability management and lifecycle planning for legacy platforms
Documentation & Planning Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures
Assist in cost estimation and budgeting for technology refreshes and migrations
Leadership & Communication Act as a functional SME and mentor to junior engineers
Communicate technical requirements and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment).

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
CCNP or equivalent experience
8+ years in network engineering
Technical Proficiency Routing & Switching: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP
Security:
Firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto), VPNs, IDS/IPS
Wireless:
Wi-Fi, WLAN
Tools: network monitoring and management tools
SD-WAN
Ability to support a 24/7 service organization/model where deliverables are deployed outside the normal work hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with network automation and scripting
Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid environments
Understanding of project management principles
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently
