ROLE OVERVIEW

The Humanities Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across History, Geography, Civics, and introductory Economics for Grades 5 to 10. The role involves strong planning, rich subject knowledge, skill-based teaching, and the ability to inspire curiosity about society, culture, governance, environment, and global affairs. The teacher must create a learning environment that is engaging, inquiry-driven, and aligned with the values and academic standards of The Shishya Jigyasa Academy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery

- Teach History, Geography, Civics, and Economics across Grades 5–10, adapting instruction to developmental levels.
- Prepare structured lesson plans, unit plans, and learning outcomes aligned with school curriculum and board requirements.
- Integrate maps, timelines, case studies, discussions, and real-world applications into lessons.
- Use inquiry-based, project-based, and activity-driven pedagogy to promote understanding of social systems and global issues.
- Design age-appropriate assessments, including projects, classwork, quizzes, presentations, and written exams.

2. Student Progress & Academic Support

- Track individual student performance, learning gaps, and strengths with systematic documentation.
- Provide timely feedback on assignments and assessments.
- Offer remediation sessions for students requiring additional support.
- Encourage critical thinking, debate, and comparative analysis in social sciences.

3. Classroom Management & Environment

- Maintain a positive, respectful, well-organized classroom.
- Encourage student participation, collaborative learning, and inquiry-driven discussions.
- Uphold discipline in alignment with school values of empathy, respect, and human dignity.

4. Communication & Collaboration

- Communicate with parents regularly regarding academic progress and behavioural concerns.
- Participate in weekly planning meetings with Principal or Coordinators.
- Work collaboratively with other subject teachers for integrated projects and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Contribute to curriculum development and refinement.

5. School Events & Responsibilities

- Play an active role in organizing and executing events such as:
- Humanities Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Environmental Awareness Week, Heritage Projects, etc.
- Attend and support school programs, workshops, excursions, and annual events.
- Supervise students during sports time, field activities, and external trips as required.

6. Professional Development

- Attend all in-house training sessions, professional development programmes, and Saturday workshops.
- Engage in continuous learning to improve teaching strategies, content mastery, and pedagogy.
- Be open to feedback and reflective practice.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

- Bachelor’s degree in Humanities / Social Sciences & History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology).(Preferred:

B.Ed. or equivalent teacher training qualification.)
- 2+ years of teaching experience with middle and/or high school students.
- Master's in Humanities required for high school only

Preferred

- Experience teaching IGCSE curriculum.
- Strong ability to teach using maps, charts, debates, research assignments, and presentations.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Familiarity with digital learning tools and blended learning methods.

Work Expectations

- Prepare students for the weekly assembly as per the scheduled calendar
