The main role of band 5 Registered Nurse will be: provide exceptional patient care underpinned by evidence-based practice; maintain and develop high standards of nursing care, reflecting professional practice and patient care; support Senior Band 5, 6 and 7 staff; delegate, supervise and support unregistered workforce and student nurses with day-to-day duties; be self‑aware and responsible for training needs, skill enhancement and registration renewal;

monitor patient conditions and respond to changes, escalating concerns appropriately; evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and adapt as required.

Clinical Care & Procedures
  • Deliver holistic nursing care, including wound management, post‑operative care and rehabilitation support.
  • Administer medications, IV medications and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  • Support patients with mobility, personal care and rehabilitation exercises.
Multidisciplinary Teamwork
  • Collaborate with doctors, therapists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
  • Participate in ward rounds, case discussions and care planning meetings.
Patient & Family Communication
  • Provide clear information and education about procedures, recovery and self‑care.
  • Offer emotional support to patients and families, addressing concerns and questions.
Documentation & Governance
  • Maintain accurate patient records, observations and care documentation.
  • Comply with NMC standards, trust policies, infection control and safeguarding procedures.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives and incident reporting.
Professional Development
  • Engage in ongoing training, clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
  • Support the development of junior staff and student nurses where appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice) or National Certification in area of practice.
  • UK recognised degree in nursing relevant to post.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.
Desirable Criteria
  • Post‑graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
  • Previous experience in the relevant specialty.
  • Previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints.
  • Previous management experience of a specific clinical area.
  • Appropriate UK professional registration.
