The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals – the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

The fellowship focuses on developing high‑quality anaesthesia skills, especially in remote environments and for day surgery. Fellows receive training opportunities, accompany senior colleagues on MRI/CT and interventional radiology lists, and work in a high‑turnover day surgery centre. Up to one day per week is offered for continuous professional development and fellows are encouraged to undertake QI or service development projects. Fellows work under the direct supervision of senior staff until induction is completed and are expected to keep accurate contemporaneous records of clinical activities, including pre‑operative assessment, post‑operative care, pain relief and critical incidents.

The post-holder will participate in clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement, and any other clinical governance activities required by the Trust, Health Authorities, and external accrediting bodies. Fellows will rotate through specialties, undertake solo elective theatre lists commensurate with their level of training, and will be given study leave to attend the QI training programme and allocated appropriate time for managing their chosen QI projects.

The post-holder will be the sole anaesthetist resident at night, with the consultant available from home, and will have a dedicated on‑call room available.

• Full registration with the GMC and licence to practice at the time of application
• FRCA or Equivalent

• 5 years’ experience in anaesthesia and intensive care, as part of a structured training programme
• ALS provider
• Able to provide high quality perioperative care independently for emergency and elective cases, or aware of limitations, at the level of ST6 trainee
• Teaching medical and nursing undergraduates and postgraduates
• NHS experience
• ATLS / APLS or equivalent
• Completed the equivalent of intermediate training in anaesthesia (UK CCT curriculum), particularly in regard to paediatrics and ICM
• Critical Care Transfer experience
• Experience in day surgery and remote site anaesthesia

• Familiar with working in teams, with ability and experience in leading teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self‑motivated and sees tasks through to completion

• Conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times
• Prior involvement in Audit and Clinical governance
• Willing to follow national and local guidelines with respect to patient management and education

• Computer literacy in order to participate in electronic record keeping
• Able to perform common procedures required in Anaesthetic practice
