Job Description Position Overview
We are seeking a Transportation Safety & Training Auditor to support day-to-day safety, training, and compliance activities at a busy transportation operation in Baltimore City. This role plays a key part in helping ensure drivers, vehicles, and operational practices meet internal safety standards and applicable local, state, and federal transportation regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with paratransit, transit, or fleet operations experience who are interested in growing into a safety, training, or compliance career path within the transportation industry.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety and training audits of drivers, vehicles, and operational activities.
- Complete checklists, inspections, and compliance reviews to identify safety risks and non‑compliance.
- Assist with incident reviews and investigations, including documentation and follow‑up actions.
- Track audit results, corrective actions, and safety trends using spreadsheets and online tools.
- Maintain accurate safety, training, and audit records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Support the review of driver training records and safety compliance documentation.
- Prepare basic safety and compliance reports for site leadership.
- Observe operations in active transportation environments, including exposure to vehicle traffic and fleet activity.
- Work collaboratively with safety, operations, and management staff to promote a safe workplace.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support department operations.
- Experience as a paratransit operator, bus operator, road supervisor, dispatcher, or safety clerk.
- Prior exposure to transportation safety, driver training, or compliance processes.
- Interest in transitioning from operations into safety, training, or compliance support.
- Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, or FTA environments (formal certification not required).
- Gain hands‑on experience in transportation safety and compliance.
- Work alongside experienced safety and operations professionals.
- Build skills applicable to future safety, compliance, or supervisory roles.
- Be part of a mission‑driven operation focused on public safety and service reliability.
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional education in safety, transportation, or related fields is a plus).
- Transportation industry experience strongly preferred (paratransit, transit, motor carrier, fleet operations).
- Basic understanding of transportation safety principles and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules as needed.
- Industry certifications (CSP, CTSP, OSHA, DOT‑related training) are a plus but not required.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is generally done sitting at a desk, utilizing repetitive hand and wrist motion. Lifting, stooping, pulling, and bending is required. 95% of work is accomplished indoors and in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds.
Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job. Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations and noise.
