Driver - CDL (B) Position Summary
A Driver- CDL (B) is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. In addition, the driver must ensure vehicle compliance with company safety standards, state and federal regulations, and complete vehicle condition reports (VCRs) daily.
Principal Responsibilities- Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
- Safely operate the heavy truck along the designated route, read the route sheet, follow the map, and service each customer as identified.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Courteously interact with all customers, dispatchers and others to ensure routes are serviced timely and professionally.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
- Clean area around an accidental waste spill, adhering to all safety standards and policies.
- Monitor vehicle condition to ensure it is operationally ready at all times, clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs and other reports.
- Maintain adherence to required productivity standards to service customers efficiently.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate good customer service skills, act professionally, courteous and cooperative toward customers and co‑workers, and work with honesty and trustworthiness.
- Demonstrate good time‑management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Show follow‑through ability; adhere to work schedule and follow through on challenges as they arise.
- Adhere to Company policies and rules, promote the Company’s safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
- Maintain pride in work and strive to achieve all goals.
- Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s license with air brakes endorsement.
