As a Y Group Exercise Instructor, you’ll be an important part of a mission-driven organization that helps children, adults, families, and communities achieve more in all aspects of life. The Group Exercise Instructor provides quality instruction and supervision to Y members and participants by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote total fitness development and support a greater sense of well-being.
You’ll help more people stay active and connected to positive community life by creating a fun, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes group interaction, exercise and a sense of belonging. You’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by creating experiences that help people feel a greater sense of health and well-being, purpose, acceptance and belonging.
- A love of fitness and people
- A desire to help & encourage others to have fun with fitness
- A nationally recognized accredited group exercise certification required (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NETA preferred) or standalone or specialty certification (Les Mills, Zumba, etc.) and knowledge of guiding meditation and mindfulness practices
- The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
All Y associates agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth that sets clear expectations for associates and volunteers to ensure a safe and respectful environment for young people. It emphasizes treating youth with respect and fairness, avoiding inappropriate physical or verbal interactions, and adhering to established standards of affection. The policy strictly prohibits any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment and mandates the reporting of suspected mistreatment.
Additionally, associates and volunteers must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements to safeguard youth.
