Inside Higher Ed invites applications for the UX Engineer (Center for Technology in Education) role. This casual on‑call position reports to the Program Director for Learning Design and Innovation and blends user‑centered design expertise with frontend code implementation across multiple web‑based educational technology projects.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and gather requirements, meeting with clients to observe and understand processes, documenting findings.
- Design and develop tasks and project plans, writing functional/technical specifications for developers.
- Develop change data input, files/database structures, transformations, algorithms using appropriate computer languages/tools.
- Document code and associated processes, adding comments and maintaining knowledge‑base documentation.
- Create and document test scenarios, executing tests to validate functionality and verify accuracy.
- Implement changes adhering to change‑management policies, communicating risks and impacts.
- Monitor implementations, troubleshoot issues, triage problems, and ensure smooth transition.
- Apply human‑centered design principles, including usability and accessibility standards.
- Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, high‑fidelity mockups using industry‑standard tools.
- Write efficient, maintainable, scalable front‑end code (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
- Implement front‑end enhancements such as advanced design patterns, animation, micro interactions, data visualization.
- Collaborate with back‑end developers to integrate front‑end interfaces with APIs and services.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Three years of related experience with computer systems and applications (or equivalent education/experience).
- Knowledge of the assigned application and platform.
- Advanced CSS3, HTML5, JavaScript skills.
- Experience in responsive web design, digital accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA/AAA, ARIA, assistive tech testing).
- Portfolio showcasing complex responsive web applications with high‑fidelity prototypes and live implementations.
- Experience leveraging AI tools in UI/UX design and front‑end development.
