** job summary
** a community health educator iii designs, organizes and conducts health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
** minimum qualifications:*
* *** on or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
***** education:
** have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
** and
* *** experience:
** have two years of experience performing public or community health education work.
** or
* *** equivalency notes:
** have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience performing public or community health education work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
** licenses, registrations, and certificates:
** have a valid maryland class c noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a baltimore city driver’s permit.
** provisional driver’s license or learner permits are not acceptable.

* ** you must upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with application at time of applying.
**** notes:
** in some designated positions, specific experience providing community health education in hiv/aids, sexually transmitted diseases or tuberculosis may be required. Some positions in this class may require, in addition to fluency in english, fluency in reading, writing, speaking and translating english into a non-english language. Those eligibles under final consideration for appointment to some positions in this class will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.

*** knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education.
* knowledge of individual and group behavior.
* knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as hiv/aids, std and tuberculosis.
* skill, in certain designated positions, in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-english language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a latin or non-latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.
* ability to design, organize, conduct and evaluate community health education and promotion programs.
* ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials.
* ability to develop and conduct in-service training programs in health education.
* ability to act as a health educational consultant.
* ability to deal with city government officials and personnel and community groups and organizations.
* ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
