Job Overview
We have multiple openings for Data Center Cable Technicians to support a large-scale infrastructure buildout in Sterling, VA. These roles involve IT cabling work on a significant data center project and are ideal for entry-level candidates or individuals coming from a low-voltage trade school who want to grow in the cabling industry. Openings are available for Tech Level 1 and Tech Level 2 skill sets.
You will assist higher-level technicians and team leads with building out the structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure, including pulling cable, installing pathways, learning color codes, terminating copper and fiber, assembling server racks, and supporting security device installation.
- Pull, run, and assist with installing IT cabling (Cat5, Cat6, Coaxial, Fiber Optics).
- Operate hand and power tools safely (e.g., cable cutters, drills, compression tools).
- Assist Tech Level 2 personnel and handle material movement and organization.
- Climb ladders and work comfortably at heights as required.
- Install wireway, bus duct, cable trays, switches, receptacles, and related infrastructure.
- Build telecom closets, including mounting and installing backboards, racks, cross‑connects, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as needed.
- Complete IDC terminations (110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- Support conduit installation and wire pulls.
- Follow blueprints and construction documents accurately.
- Complete all required paperwork such as timesheets, work orders, and material tracking.
- Adhere to all safety standards, quality guidelines, and site requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Entry‑level experience or training in low‑voltage systems preferred.
- Reliable transportation to the Sterling, VA job site.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Able to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must have or be able to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
- Must be proficient with basic tools, including:
- Screwdriver (flat and Phillips)
- Drywall saw
- Torpedo level
- Tape measure
- Snips w/ sheath
- Needle‑nose and channel‑lock pliers
- Hammer
- Cable stripper
- Flashlight
- Gloves
- Punctual, team‑oriented, and able to be flexible with work hours.
- Comfortable wearing all required PPE (steel toe boots, safety vest, gloves, safety glasses, and hard hat).
This is an excellent opportunity to enter or advance within the telecommunications and data center cabling field. This project offers long‑term stability with a large‑scale data center build expected to continue for an extended period.
Work Environment- Work is performed in a large, active data center construction environment in Sterling, VA.
- Must be comfortable working around construction activity and at elevated heights.
- Steel toe boots required; PPE will be provided on‑site for certain items.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 – $22.00/hr.
