* Job Summary:

** A Sign Fabricator I constructs and repairs parking control and traffic signs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in a sign shop where such conditions as noxious fumes, extremes of cold and heat and etching acids are encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion in lifting large or heavy metal signs and materials.

** Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
** AND

* Experience:

** Have one year of experience in sign fabrication and repair.
** OR
* *** Equivalency Notes:
** Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

*** Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
*** Knowledge of drawing, lettering and silk-screening techniques and procedures.
* Knowledge of photographic equipment utilized in creating negatives for silk-screen processing.
* Ability to draw, letter and silk-screen metal signs.
* Ability to operate photographic equipment used in silk-screening and sign fabrication.
* Ability to fabricate special signs and posters as necessary.
** Additional Information
**** Background Check
** Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
** Probation
* * All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
** Eligibility
* * Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
