Plumbing Shop Assistant Supervisor (Facilities & Real Estate)

We are seeking a Plumbing Shop Assistant Supervisor to lead our shop team, manage work orders, and ensure efficient plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance across the campus.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the Supervisor or other senior managers as required.
  • Liaise between the Supervisor and other employees.
  • Provide direction to staff whenever the supervisor is off‑site.
  • Inspect contracted work as needed.
  • Review all work orders before and after completion.
  • Provide mentoring/training to staff members.
  • Assist in hiring and training new employees.
  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions and workshops.
  • Monitor both individual and team job performance metrics through Maximo (CMMS) and inform supervisors of completed and outstanding work orders.
  • Provide staff with technical guidance and assistance.
  • Relay productivity concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Prepare work schedules.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks when required.
  • Attend and participate in meetings regarding work to be done; attend training classes.
  • Be available to respond to emergency needs 24/7 as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or general education equivalent. Certifications or a professional license preferred.
  • Six years' experience in the indicated field, including 2 years' experience in a similar supervisor/lead role.
  • Journeymen License (HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical) required.
  • Experience with liaising between management and employees.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Technical Qualifications & Specialized Certifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment in the licensed trade.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Ability to prepare estimates and order materials for maintenance and repair jobs.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining operating conditions.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, supervise, and inspect the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and thrive in a construction environment.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and reporting job performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and Excel (Microsoft products).
  • Exceptional ability to motivate employees and foster teamwork.
Physical Requirements
  • Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
