ABOUTTHE ROLE
As a University Police Officer II, you will maintain safety on campus. The full‑service department operates 24/7, providing full police authority and coordinating with non‑sworn security and professional staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Patrol designated areas by vehicle and foot, identifying safety hazards, detecting violations, and identifying wanted vehicles, persons, and unusual conditions.
- Respond to emergency calls, evaluate situations, determine appropriate action, and administer emergency medical aid.
- Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations by interviewing, obtaining statements, collecting, preserving, and processing evidence.
- Conduct surveillance, serve warrants and summonses, perform searches, detain suspicious vehicles and persons; arrest, search, restrain, transport, guard, and process violators.
- Interact with the campus community, establishing rapport.
- Mediates disputes and provides legal advice; performs crisis mediation involving domestic, civil, suicidal, or hostage situations.
- Operate communication equipment, prepare detailed reports and forms.
- Prepare cases and testify in court.
- Enforce laws, ordinances, and institutional regulations.
- Direct traffic, investigate accidents, determine causes, and take appropriate action.
- Inspect and maintain equipment, including firearms and protective apparel.
- Operate law‑enforcement equipment such as firearms and other self‑defense tools.
- Assist in training and direct activities of support personnel.
- Participate in specialized unit activities such as crime prevention, recertification, investigations, and special events.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Completion of MPTC recognized Police Academy and Police Field Training program, MPTC Certification.
Certification: Sworn Police Officer recognized by MPTC, valid Maryland non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license, Clery Act CSA member compliance.
