The Public Safety Lieutenant will serve as a people manager in the security department, responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of security operations to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and assets within the facility. This position provides leadership, direction, and support to security personnel, fostering a culture of professionalism, excellence, and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the security department within the healthcare facility, including staffing, hiring, scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action, to ensure a high level of effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism in security operations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate security policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and best practices in healthcare security.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and vulnerability analyses of the facility, identifying security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, and developing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance security measures.
  • Coordinate and oversee security operations, including patrols, access control, surveillance monitoring, and emergency response, to maintain a safe and secure environment within the healthcare facility.
  • Serve as a liaison between the security department and other departments within the healthcare facility, collaborating on security-related initiatives, projects, and programs to address safety concerns and improve security posture.
  • Respond to security incidents, emergencies, and disturbances within the facility, providing guidance and direction to security personnel to ensure a prompt, effective, and coordinated response.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of security breaches, incidents, and complaints, gathering evidence, conducting interviews, and preparing detailed reports for review and action by appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and drills for security officers, healthcare staff, and other stakeholders to enhance readiness, response capabilities, and compliance with security protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate security technologies, equipment, and systems, recommending upgrades, enhancements, and improvements to ensure optimal performance and effectiveness in safeguarding the facility.
  • Maintain professional relationships with local law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, regulatory authorities, and community partners, representing the facility in security-related matters and facilitating collaboration and information sharing.
Experience and Leadership
  • Minimum of five to seven (5‑7) years of experience in security management, law enforcement, or military roles, with demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and managerial abilities.
  • Previous supervisory experience in healthcare is required.
Licensure, Certification, and Ongoing Training
  • Valid driver's license with no more than 5 current points, and the ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications.
  • Successful completion of post-hire entry training courses, including CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de‑escalation. Certifications must be maintained.
  • Possession of, or requirement to file for, a Maryland Security Guard license within the first 90 days of employment.
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Supervisor Level Certification required.
  • Possession of DC Security Officer License, or requirement to file for it within the first 45 days of employment.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
