Responsibilities

The Merch Manager reports to the Store Manager and is directly responsible for all merchandising operations within assigned departments. Key duties include:

  • Establishing department layouts and adjacencies per the Daily Memo guidelines.
  • Maintaining signing standards and product features.
  • Setting up raceways and promotional aisles.
  • Executing markdowns, managing freight flow to the sales floor, and controlling loss and shrink.
  • Maintaining department maintenance and detail recovery.
  • Acting as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store Manager and Co‑Manager.
  • Assisting with hiring, staffing, paperwork, and front‑end HR functions.
  • Ensuring all company policies and procedures are understood and executed.
  • Improving store volume, profits, and employee retention/turnover while meeting established budgets.
  • Communicating company policies, training materials, and directives to customers and team members.
  • Working at different store locations as required by the District Manager.
  • Storing overnight accommodations for new store openings, clean‑ups, and inventory work as needed.
  • Being flexible to transfer to other stores within the market.
  • Working varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical requirements:

ability to lift up to 40 lbs. (occasionally 70 lbs.) and perform frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and repetitive lifting with or without reasonable accommodation.
