Overview
Schedules, coordinates, and participates in a wide variety of food preparation and service, food safety, distribution, accountability and related tasks in compliance with federal school meal regulations. This job is performed in cafeteria operations with a weighted average daily participation rate range of 501 meals served to 800 meals served and involves supervising personnel in cooking, preparing, and serving food as well as cleaning food service areas.
EssentialFunctions
- Oversees operation of federal school meal programs, including breakfast/alternative breakfast, lunch, after school snack/supper, salad bars and fresh fruit and vegetable program, with strict adherence to district menus.
- Assigns tasks and supervises the preparation and serving of foods in large quantities; participates in work as necessary.
- Required to float from school to school as necessary.
- Instructs personnel in proper food preparation, service and safety procedures, proper implementation of federal school meal regulations, and the correct use and care of equipment.
- Reviews and approves work; disciplines staff as necessary.
- Maintains safety standards and sanitary procedures in compliance with Health Department regulations.
- Purchases meat, milk, bread and vegetables and other supplies in accordance with estimated needs; receives and accounts for supplies.
- Functions as cashier; receives and counts money and prepares deposits.
- Operates computerized food services accounting system.
- Completes and maintains financial, personnel, and other records and reports as required.
- Ensures school meals are prepared, served, documented, and claimed for reimbursement in compliance with district menu, federal school meal regulations and local school board policies.
- Trains employees on correct procedures for all Food and Nutrition meal programs.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follow federal laws, state laws, school board's policies and the professional standards.

Qualifications- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years' experience in food service, including experience in large quantity cooking.
- Knowledge of food preparation and serving procedures.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices and procedures, and school meal procedures mandated by federal regulations.
- Hold or acquire certification as a Food Services Manager by the Baltimore City Health Department within 90 days of employment.
- Requires travel between multiple school sites depending on need (Transportation required).
- Ability to follow written instructions.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to maintain and prepare reports.
- Proficient in use of computer applications.
- Ability to supervise and instruct employees in the requirements of their jobs.
