Position: Bioinformatics Analyst I

About the Role

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting for a Bioinformatics Analyst I. The candidate will join the Bergman Lab. Daniel Bergman, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, recognized for developing mechanistic and mathematical modeling approaches to investigate cellular biology. His research integrates systems biology, mathematical modeling, bioinformatics, algorithm development, and the creation of open‑source software designed for broad usability.

Primary Duties
  • Contribute to genomic research projects and scientific analysis of the data generated by those projects using a variety of database and software applications. Generate, annotate, gather, or analyze data and prepare for further analysis, and research.
  • Follow established procedures or specific scientific protocols, add value to data generated by genome sequencing projects through assembly, annotation, curation, and quality assurance.
  • Perform preliminary analysis of genomic data and format for use by other analysts or scientists.
  • Integrate and analyze data from genome sequencing projects, functional genomics analysis, and other school of medicine research projects.
  • Perform data mining and synthesis activities using various internal resources, public databases, and publications.
  • Organize genomic data with other relevant data types into databases, displays, or graphic presentations for publication and web presentation.
  • Participate in community outreach and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education

Bachelor's in Life Sciences, including fields such as Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics.

Experience

Prior genomic research experience with experience with Windows and UNIX-based operating systems and database management systems strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience in Bioinformatics and coding skills in R and Python is preferred.

Range

$69,000 - $76,000 commensurate with education and experience.
