Role Summary

Parity is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Horticulturist to support the care, health, and long-term stewardship of plants and green spaces in our Harlem Park community. This role is hands‑on and outdoors, with a strong focus on plant health, soil care, pruning, planting, and ecological maintenance across vacant lots, parks, and shared community spaces.

Daily tasks may include assessing plant health, watering and mulching, pruning trees and shrubs, managing weeds, improving soil conditions, selecting appropriate plantings, and supporting seasonal planting plans. This role requires someone with working knowledge of plants and growing conditions who can identify issues early and guide best practices for maintaining healthy, resilient green spaces.

By combining horticultural expertise with Parity's community‑driven mission, you will help create green spaces that foster pride, environmental health, and neighborhood wellbeing.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant care including watering, pruning, mulching, soil health, and seasonal needs
  • Ability to identify common plant stressors, pests, and environmental issues
  • Experience with planting plans, native or adaptive species, and basic landscape design preferred
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical work in various weather conditions
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with staff, residents, and volunteers
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends
  • Landscaping, gardening, horticulture, or environmental stewardship experience required
