As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, you will ensure that proper animal care and husbandry are provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You’ll serve as the primary resource for animal care and maintenance while supporting the PCC’s budgeted sales and shrink goals. You will also help execute merchandising and inventory strategies across the PCC, working closely with the sales team to meet guest and pet needs.
Demonstrate a passion for animal welfare, health, and proper care while being a positive partner within the entire Pet Care Center team.
- Have a strong interest in animal welfare and possess a high level of knowledge of our companion animal and aquatic care.
- Ensure that all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC receive appropriate care, including maintenance, incident reports and hourly health checks.
- Process register transactions to create a great experience for each guest.
- Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed.
- Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed to create a great presentation for guests.
- Complete and apply training programs to maintain a high level of expertise and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance.
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Adhere to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.
- Act as primary resource for guests and other PCC partners regarding all animal education and care.
- Efficiently order companion animals, aquatic life, supplies and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin and inventory.
- Analyze department inventory management data and recommend areas for improvement.
- Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image and appearance of companion animal habitats and aquatic areas, including sweeping/mopping floors, dusting, cleaning tanks, facing merchandise on shelves, etc.
- Ensure proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals.
- Verify animal‑related maintenance tasks are completed as outlined on the Maintenance Schedules.
- Participate in all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts.
- Adhere to and promote established safety and loss prevention procedures.
- Perform additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision.
- Utilize selling behaviors as key to providing an amazing guest experience through the Pet Care Center’s Sales Model.
- Contribute to a safe environment, ensuring that safety protocols are maintained; the safety of partners, guests and pets is the #1 priority.
