ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurosurgery Clinic provides comprehensive outpatient nursing care, care coordination, and clinical support for patients undergoing neurosurgical evaluation and treatment, providing direct support to Dr. Jon McIver. This role requires the ability to triage patient concerns, manage post-operative follow-up, coordinate care across multiple services, and support the provider by assisting with the management of patient messages, telephone calls, and in-basket communications.
- Manage and triage the EPIC provider in-basket, including patient messages, test results, medication requests, and care coordination tasks, assessing urgency and ensuring timely responses and appropriate escalation per established protocols
- Process medication requests and refills at the discretion of the physician and in accordance with clinic guidelines
- Conduct post-operative follow-up phone calls to assess patient recovery, symptoms, and clinical concerns
- Apply independent nursing judgment to determine the urgency of patient issues and elevate to the provider as appropriate
- Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, imaging, and consultations with other non-neurosurgical providers
- Reconcile imaging orders and ensure appropriate follow-up and accurate documentation
- Coordinate care for non-neurosurgical issues with appropriate providers and services
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum of two (2) years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience, preferably in neurosurgery, neurology, critical care, or surgical-based practice
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- EPIC electronic health record experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and care coordination skills
