Under the Direction of the Assistant Director for Clinical Development and Medical Director of Cardiac Services, the Cardiology Nurse Coordinator supports patient care, throughput, and clinical operations for the Heart Center, Cardiology Resident Clinic, and Benning Road Cardiology site.

- Trains all staff on department pre-visit planning protocols
- Conducts telephone triage, as scripted per the red/yellow/green triage matrix
- Reviews referrals and schedules based on diagnosis protocols
- Reconciles orders, including EKGs, Echos, X-rays and Stress Tests
- Compiles consult notes and sends to referring providers
- Liaison for inpatient discharge and ER follow-up appointments
- Tracks patients for value-based payments programs
- Trains medical assistants
- Manages Cardiology task in-basket, ensures service levels are met
- Manages patient throughput for Department Clinical Trials
- Collaborates with Clinic Supervisor and Clinical Director for improvement projects
- Collaborates with physician/medical residents as appropriate to determine action plan / escalation for cardiology patients
- Documents telephone triage call in the EMR
- Manages Medication Refills process
- Reviews patient EMR for prescribed medication indication / history
- Confirms medication prescription to ensure it is the right medication, dosage, and frequency reviews allergies / changes in medical history
- Contacts patient to schedule appointment if required for refill
- Pends refill request to physician in EMR
- Documents / scans all relevant information in EMR
- Other duties as assigned
- Licensed Practical Nurse – Required
- DC License – Required
- 2+ years experience in an academic health system – Preferred
- 3+ years ambulatory nursing experience or 2 years inpatient experience on a med/surg Unit – Required
Expected Pay Range: $90,909 - $100,000
