Job SummaryA Hearing and Vision Tester provides hearing and vision screenings for school children. The role requires moderate supervision, a conventional work week, and the transportation of testing equipment between school buildings.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience providing services to children or families in health, education, or social services settings.
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.
- Valid Maryland Class C non‑commercial driver’s license or an equivalent license acceptable for a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
- Submit a copy of your valid driver’s license with your application.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Learn the objectives and techniques of a hearing and vision testing program.
- Operate audiometers, Good‑Lite, Snellen vision chart, and other screening equipment.
- Work quickly and thoroughly, maintaining accurate records.
- Establish satisfactory relations with children and solicit cooperation.
- Deal effectively with school principals, nurses, and teachers.
Background Check: Candidates selected for positions of trust must complete a criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprint authorization.
Probation: All appointees, including current City employees, must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period.
Eligibility & Selection Process: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise for at least six months. Selection will be based on education, training, and experience. Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list.
Examination Process: Successful applicants will be placed on an employment‑certified eligible list for at least six months. The examination will evaluate education, training, experience, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the position.
