Nurse Practitioner; SOM, Pediatric Cardiology

Overview

The Pediatric Cardiology Unit is seeking a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Blalock Taussig Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center, Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to children with congenital and acquired heart disease in the acute care setting.

The Pediatric Cardiology Unit (PCU) is a designated space within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Children's Center to care for pediatric cardiology, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac surgery patients. The PCU team provides multidisciplinary care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents and young adults with cardiac intensive care step down and acute care needs. The PCU NP is expected to independently manage patients while working collaboratively with pediatric cardiology fellows and attending physicians.

As part of Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Heart Center collaborates with cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac critical care, and cardiac anesthesia to provide a team-based approach to patient care. The PCU NP works closely with physicians and other NPs in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and outpatient Pediatric Cardiology Clinic to support transitions in care throughout the hospital system. Collaboration across disciplines and patient care spaces is integral to the PCU NP role.

• Conduct comprehensive and episodic health assessments and document assessments required to maintain, coordinate, and expedite services.
• Obtain history and perform physical exams; discriminate between normal and abnormal findings; identify differential diagnoses.
• Develop and implement a Plan of Care, including ordering appropriate labs and imaging and interpreting results within scope of practice.
• Prescribe and regulate medications and perform related procedures within the Maryland Board of Nursing scope of practice for the Nurse Practitioner.
• Coordinate referrals to appropriate specialties and triage patient telephone calls and messages; track patient adherence with the treatment plan.
• Collaborate with the health care team to ensure smooth operations and transitions across pediatric cardiology, ICU, and outpatient settings.
• Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives and support interdisciplinary education and team development.

• Minimum Qualifications:
  
  Master's Degree in Nursing;
  Registered Nurse license; licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in Maryland; national certification by an accredited NP body (e.g., PNCB).
• Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  Current CPR and PALS certification and completion of Johns Hopkins Hospital credentialing process prior to start.

• Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care.
• At least 2 years of relevant RN experience within pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, or cardiac ICU.

Nurse Practitioner. Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MG. Starting salary range: $100,000 - $152,900 annually (target $120,000; commensurate with experience). Employee group:
Full Time.

Schedule:

Variable 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week, 37.5 hours/week.
