Med Star Medical Group is seeking an experienced, full-time Cardiovascular Step-Down Advanced Practice Provider at Med Star Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Performs a variety of duties such as history and physicals as well as providing care to assigned patients. Assesses, diagnoses, documents findings, and writes medical orders. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians for patients on cardiac surgery step down unit (CVSD). The CVSD consists of 18 beds. On average, the APP will be responsible for 8-12 patients per shift.

job duties include:
  • Providing emergent and urgent care to patients on the CVSD.
  • Performing histories and physical examinations on new consults and admissions as needed.
  • Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
  • Recommending, initiating, and managing appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies, including respiratory distress, heart failure, and hypotension. Communicating changes in patient condition with on call attending.
  • Nightly rounds with the attending physician and nursing team.
  • Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants.
  • Communicating between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
  • Being a resource for bedside nurses.
  • Work collaboratively with the CVICU APP.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program.
  • NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • One year of in‑patient hospital medicine.
