The Department of Neurology is seeking CO Nurse Practitioner Manager for the Movement Disorder Division. The Nurse Practitioner Manager will work collaboratively as a member of a team that provides comprehensive care to patients. The applicant will work under the supervision of an attending physician. The applicant will also work collaboratively with nurses, pharmacists, and therapists.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Obtain history and perform physical examinations on newly admitted patients, write orders for medications, procedures, and other treatments as necessary. Independently sees return patients (1
-2 clinical sessions). - Educate patients and families regarding the nature of their clinical problems, prognoses, and options for continued care.
- Participate as a teacher and as a learner in educational activities within the guidelines of the department and institution.
- Some of the clinical areas the NP will focus include deep brain stimulation (DBS) and botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) chemodenervation.
- DBS related activities include helping with pre-DBS workup and coordination, including levodopa ON-OFF testing, post-surgical care, coordination, and programming.
- BoNT related activities include evaluation of patients’ treatment response, assistance with procedures and procedure notes, and reviewing and ordering the appropriate kind and amount of neurotoxin.
- The ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members as necessary.
- Analytical abilities are necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action for long and short term management of acute and chronic health.
- Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel.

- The Nurse Practitioner Manager must be able to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.
- Master's Degree in nursing;
Registered Nurse license and certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. - Require minimum of 3 years experience in related clinical area, and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. Prefer at least 5 years related experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience.
** Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date**
