Position: Program Support/Volunteer Coordinator - Community Engagement

Overview

To effectively manage all volunteer and internship programs for The Family Tree, the focus will be on expanding services, discovering new ways to engage potential volunteers, and collaborating with leading academic institutions to offer dynamic, community-based service-learning experiences for student interns. Additionally, it will involve creating a sustainable infrastructure to support an active volunteer system.

This position is also responsible for the daily implementation of parent support, family engagement, and children's programming throughout Maryland. In this role, you will serve as the Lead Coordinator and provide Technical Assistance for Maryland’s Chapter of the Circle of Parents® National. Responsibilities will be guided by the standards of the Circle of Parents® National support groups and the agency’s strategic plan.

Furthermore, this role includes supervising staff and developing and maintaining program sites and partnerships across the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Volunteer Management: assess current methods of volunteer recruitment, training, placement, and retention.
  • Volunteer Management: develop and implement strategies to recruit & screen volunteers and interns for all programs.
  • Volunteer Management: develop unique partnerships with universities, colleges, non-profits, and the business community that support the professional development of staff, volunteers, interns, and Parent Leaders.
  • Volunteer Management: recommend annually a budget to support program activities and services.
  • Volunteer Management: assist as necessary in seeking out funding sources and possible grant writing.
  • Volunteer Management: work in a cooperative and professional manner with staff, Board members, and donors.
  • Program Development and Expansion: develops, implements, and expands support groups throughout the state using the Circle of Parents® National support group standard.
  • Program Development and Expansion: establishes community partnerships to promote the development of sites in assigned communities. Implements and monitors services based on the strategic and annual work plans.
  • Program Development and Expansion: participates in the development of programs and services including grant and report writing.
  • Training and Support: maintains program fidelity standards and guidelines for adult and children’s groups.
  • Training and Support: provides ongoing consultation, training, technical assistance, and support for parent facilitators and children’s program workers across the state.
  • Training and Support: supervises and trains volunteers, interns, and external agencies as group facilitators or child nurturers.
  • Training and Support: provides training, technical assistance, and support on child maltreatment and related issues for community agencies as assigned.
  • Administration and Management: manages assigned budget including tracking expenditures.
  • Administration and Management: conducts regular individual supervision with direct reports.
  • Administration and Management: monitors program files/data to ensure compliance with required standards (agency, regulatory, or accreditation).
  • Administration and Management: completes statistical reports as required.
  • Administration and Management: attends required staff and partner meetings, training, or conferences.
  • Community Engagement and Representation: serves as a lead state agency partner representative during national affiliate meetings.
  • Community Engagement and Representation: oversees and assists the development and training of the Maryland Parent Leadership Team.
  • Community Engagement and Representation: provides direct intake, resource, and referral services to service participants via the agency's Parenting helpline.
Experience
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience working in Human Services/Social Work, Non-Profit field preferred, with at least 1-year supervisory experience.
  • One year working directly with families or children within the community or in group settings.
  • Experience managing volunteers and/or interns.
  • Program development/implementation experience.
  • Experience working with volunteers from a variety of backgrounds including interns, professionals, donors, and community members.
Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of child development and parenting skills building
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills (including Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Exceptional organization skills
Work Environment
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance coverage
  • Must work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings for special programs/occasions.
  • Must be prepared to travel to various program sites, and various communities.
