The Associate Director of Development is a frontline fundraiser responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. It involves engaging donors at all life stages, developing strategies, and maintaining stewardship throughout the major giving process, with a focus on gifts of $50,000 or above. Frequent business travel and the ability to work autonomously are required.
Key Responsibilities- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a prospect pool for new existing annual and major gifts.
- Design and implement development strategies to build a portfolio, involving relevant colleagues where necessary.
- Determine work‑plan goals in consultation with departmental or divisional development leadership.
- Track fundraising activity in the CRM.
- Plan and execute solicitation strategies leading to annual and major gifts.
- Prepare proposals, solicitation letters, gift agreements, and other development materials that articulate the university’s needs, values, and ambitions.
- Develop & maintain understanding of departmental mission to communicate funding opportunities and keep knowledge of collaborative partnerships up to date.
- Proactively communicate with major‑gift prospects and donors about specific giving options, maximizing tax benefits.
- Complete in‑person and virtual donor visits each fiscal year, with goals and KPIs set by leadership.
- Develop and participate in annual stewardship plans for donors.
- Maintain strong trust‑based partnerships with colleagues across the institution.
- Work with faculty & institutional leaders to engage them as fundraising partners, and train internal stakeholders in the development process.
- Partner with team members on planning and execution of department‑related events such as professorship dedications, lectureships, and stewardship events.
- Participate and engage in team‑wide activities, meetings, events, and knowledge‑sharing.
- Represent the division on committees and at institution‑wide programming where appropriate.
- Analyze data at a high level, identify prospects, track progress toward work plan goals.
- Participate in special projects, programs, and initiatives as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of related experience, with one year of professional experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience; additional related experience may substitute for required education, within the university’s equivalency formula.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or JD).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Full‑time, FLSA exempt. Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Hybrid location:
School of Public Health – East Baltimore Campus. Classified
Title:
Development Officer. Starting salary range: $62,899–$110,100.
