Brief Description
Position Summary:
This position assists and works under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer in order to: (1) maintain the physical plant and buildings and grounds upkeep, (2) perform maintenance repairs and service at an advanced skill level, and (3) support a high quality level of customer service to staff and clients regarding all building related maintenance issues.
- Independently performs mechanical skills for all building maintenance and repairs as directed by the Associate Director of Facilities. Including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting and appliance repair.
- Acts as team lead when working with lower level maintenance, custodial personnel and volunteers.
- Has the independent ability to travel to any one of the House of Ruth Maryland operating locations to perform assessments and repairs as needed.
- Oversees and supports grounds maintenance. Including, but not limited to, lawn cutting and trimming, snow removal, tree pruning, flower and shrub area maintenance and general trash and debris clean up.
- Maintains, repairs and utilizes an array of power tools, hand tools and grounds equipment.
- Assists in repairs of agency vehicle(s).
- Utilizes internet to research parts, maintenance instructions and information needed to maintain facilities.
- Provides back up to other operations staff in their absence.
- Carries working cell phone or pager to allow for 24-hr emergency response.
- Functions as ‘essential staff’ during weather and other emergencies.
- Assist in donation receiving, procurement and processing as needed.
- Utilizes tools and supplies in order to complete maintenance repairs and tasks.
- Utilizes and coordinate with maintenance worker and custodial staff in a lead capacity to complete buildings and grounds repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Establishes practical procedures as to complete maintenance repairs and tasks.
- Prioritizes job duties and budget their time accordantly.
- Maintains proper inventory of stock necessary for building maintenance operations.
- Involves, apprises and interacts with the Associate Director of Facilities, on a job-by-job basis, on matters of building maintenance repairs.
- Responds to all facility emergencies
- Works to keep all buildings and grounds areas maintained, functional, neat, safe, and debris free.
- Stays up to date on the “Maintenance Request” log as to not fall behind on maintenance repair issues.
- Identifies building maintenance related problems and deficits as to initiate repairs.
- Reports to the Associate Director of Facilities on current conditions and status of ongoing work.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Five years’ experience in building maintenance and grounds work.
- Must have valid Driver’s license.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work off of ladders.
- Must have reliable transportation to respond to emergency facility issues and the ability to work weekends and holidays if needed.
- Ability to understand intimate partner violence and how it affects the client population.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and maintain client confidentiality.
- Possess basic computer skills to access internet/email.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
