Duties
You will serve as a Welder (Shipfitting) and be responsible for welding tasks in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, with a specialty in pipe welding and small ship‑fitting tasks. You will use best practices for construction and hull repair to accomplish all Structural Shop operations and Yard objectives.
- Welding tasks in the 6G position using SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and GMAW equipment.
- Performing high‑skill welds that must pass strict radiographic examination for piping systems and pressure vessels.
- Welding various ship components—shell, framing, inner bottoms, tanks, boilers, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, masts, stacks, ventilation, and similar parts—plus air‑arc cutting and back gouging.
- Welding pre‑fabricated sub‑assemblies, buoys, davits, and pressure vessel tanks.
- Repairing shafting, rudder stocks, stern tubes, intakes, manifolds, and other shipyard parts.
- Welding all types of metals and alloys, from 28 gauge to 3 in.
