Summary

This vacancy is for aWG-3703-11, Welder (Shipfitting) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OFFICE OF NAVAL ENGINEERING in Baltimore, MD.

Help

You will serve as a/an Welder (Shipfitting) and be responsible for of welding task in flat, vertical, overhead positions, and with the specialty in pipe welding and to a lesser degree small Ship Fitting task using best practices for construction and hull repair required for accomplishing all Structural Shop operations along with Yard Objectives.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Welding tasks in the 6G position to include, but not limited to, common welding practices using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) equipment.
  • Applies an unusually high degree of skill to make welds that must pass very high standards of radiographic examination to assure that piping systems and pressure vessels such as boilers can meet extreme operational requirements.
  • Performs welding on the various components of a ship, including the shell, framing, inner bottoms, tanks, boilers, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, masts, stacks, ventilation, and other similar components. Performs air arc cutting and back gouging.
  • Welds pre-fabricated sub-assemblies, buoys, davits, and pressure vessel tanks.
  • Repairs shafting, rudder stocks and palms, stern tubes, intakes, manifolds, and other shipyard related parts.
  • Performs welding on all types of metals and alloys, varying in thickness from 28 gauge to 3".
