An Automotive Maintenance Worker performs safety checks on vehicles and assists mechanics in performing installation, maintenance and repair work on cars and trucks. The role involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Employees receive close supervision from a technical superior. The work is performed in an automotive shop where dirty, greasy conditions and fumes are regularly encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
MinimumQualification
- Experience:
one year of automotive maintenance or repair work. - Equivalency: one year of automotive mechanic coursework in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
- License: valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s license are not acceptable. Upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with your application.

Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the tools used in automotive maintenance work.
- Ability to drive safely.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance work on vehicles.
- Ability to follow instruction.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment must complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint. Fingerprint must be successfully completed in the final stage of the hiring process.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education AccreditationApplicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained outside the United States must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
