IT Project Manager, Systems Analyst
The IT@JH Research IT Solutions team is seeking a highly collaborative, detail-oriented IT Project Manager to oversee an active portfolio of research related projects, which includes several high-priority strategic initiatives as well as operational and process improvement projects in collaboration with key IT teams and support partners across the institution. Research IT is an evolving sector within the IT@JH organization in support of Johns Hopkins’ expanding central IT support for the research mission.
This role will play a crucial part in supporting and implementing new service offerings and special projects for the Research IT Solutions unit under the Office of the Deputy CIO. Research IT Solutions offers a coordinated experience to investigators through the design, support and facilitation of secure, cutting-edge IT solutions and services to meet the diverse needs of the Johns Hopkins investigators, helping them navigate the complexities of IT throughout the research lifecycle.
The IT Project Manager will be responsible for managing projects and ensuring the delivery of quality outcomes. This role requires collaboration across Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, engaging with faculty and other investigators, leadership, and both technical and non-technical staff. The Project Manager will provide structure and organization to the portfolio of work related to Research IT Solutions by organizing meetings, structuring project work, driving tasks forward, identifying and mitigating risks, tracking significant milestones, and communicating project status to stakeholders.
Additionally, the Project Manager will support project documentation, including the development of business cases, project charters, and status reports. They will manage individual projects and organize tasks using appropriate methodologies and tools, closely coordinated with other partner units across IT and other research support units. The candidate will track projects within the Research IT Solutions portfolio, closely collaborating with the Research IT Solutions leadership to document and communicate the unit's roadmap, achievements and opportunities.
The role involves managing projects that are high-profile and span multiple organizations. These projects will focus on advancing IT@JH managed software and infrastructure, encompassing various data storage and analytics platforms, both cloud-based and on-premises. The unit employs diverse project management methodologies, such as Kanban and Scrum, and utilizes tools like JIRA and Service Now for task and ticket tracking. The portfolio is dynamic and includes a mix of smaller, less complex projects as well as larger, highly complex initiatives, which may vary in duration from short-term to multi-year efforts.
The candidate will need to engage with individual contributors and leaders across various roles and levels within the University and Medicine organizations.
- Collaborate with and frequently lead other technical experts, architects and subject matter experts to contribute to the technical success of technology projects for the organization.
- Engage key project stakeholders to ensure the project is trending towards success.
- Work independently and frequently oversee the work of others.
- Provide project oversight for adherence to institutional standards and guidelines for security, project management, continuous service improvement, and customer service.
- Develop improvement processes for operational use by the team to ensure successful completion of a project or IT process.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
- Maintain IT effectiveness and efficiency by helping to define, deliver, and support strategic plans for implementing technology.
- Build and maintain relationships through positive interactions.
