Systems Engineer, IT Support
Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer for Johns Hopkins Public Safety who will provide technical leadership, project management, and task execution for administration, programming, maintenance, and performance implementation of departmental platforms. This includes the installation of new software, operating systems, related utilities/services, and hardware products, as well as the integration of new products and software into the organization. The role requires knowledge of compute, virtualization, storage, patching, and backup technologies, and is responsible for managing third-party software in a Server/End-User Computing environment.
Knowledge of hyperconverged technologies and multiple hypervisors is required. Experience with disaster recovery planning and cloud-based recovery is essential.
The position emphasizes the full life cycle of large-sized complex projects spanning department, division, or enterprise-wide levels, with potential impact on mission-critical systems and multiple departments.
Responsibilities- Systems Analysis/Design (Environment/Platform):
Design highly complex business, clinical, education or infrastructure solutions; document findings; assist lower levels in using the system's technical software; ensure solutions conform to institutional policies, standards, and guidelines. - Install & Configure:
Install and configure highly complex server hardware and operating systems; evaluate, implement and manage complex software/hardware solutions; ensure data/media recoverability through backups and archiving; lead the technical team to deliver projects on time and within budget. - Maintain & Troubleshoot:
Perform server-level administration, monitor and tune systems for optimum performance; develop and implement automation; conduct system upgrades; manage user access and security; generate system performance reports; maintain IT security practices; use monitoring tools and incident tracking to detect and resolve incidents; guide the team to ensure high-quality maintenance and troubleshooting. - Project Collaboration & Lifecycle Participation:
Follow change management processes; develop and evaluate RFPs; lead vendors and internal teams in developing applications; conduct meetings; author and maintain technical and end-user documentation; oversee testing planning, execution, and results; participate in institutional and departmental initiatives; perform other related duties as requested.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Six years of related experience (direct programming experience may count toward related experience; significant undergraduate programming coursework or independent projects can be considered)
- Additional education may substitute for required experience; equivalencies per the JHU formula may apply
- Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in the assigned IT environments
