Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) supports the commercialization of university technology through technology licensing, the development of sponsored research agreements, and venture creation. We serve as business advisors to investigators at all ten schools of the university whose research has commercial potential. Our resources include intellectual property (IP) protection, technology analysis, marketing and licensing support, translational and venture funding support, physical space through our Fast Forward innovation hubs, and professional services such as mentorship, pro bono legal and accounting services, and educational programming.
We are seeking a JHTV Compliance & Data Ops Manager who will oversee all federal funding compliance activities (Bayh Dole/iEdison), cross system data integrity, and data driven process improvements within JHTV. This role partners with staff and leads processes for ensuring the accuracy of patent, agreement, invention, and licensee data that underpin federal reporting, research compliance inquiries, and future automation or AI enabled workflows.
The Manager works closely with the Licensing Compliance Manager, IP Operations leadership, and JHTV’s AI/automation initiative to modernize processes, eliminate manual work, and support scalable, high integrity data infrastructure.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Team Leadership, Compliance Oversight & Regulatory Readiness- Execute and oversee all aspects of Bayh-Dole/iEdison compliance, including high-complexity and escalated items, ensuring timely and accurate entries, updates, and reporting.
- Administer compliance workflows and maintain audit readiness.
- Own the process for ensuring adherence to federal regulations, university policies, and funding agency guidance.
- Provide coaching, workload management, and professional development related to federal reporting.
- Promote accurate, consistent invention, patent, agreement, licensee, and utilization data across Inteum, Salesforce, and related systems.
- Directly support system-to-system reconciliations and data quality checks.
- Partner with IT, developers, and analytics teams to address data integrity challenges.
- Lead compliance related business side requirements for AI/automation initiatives, translating workflows into technical specifications.
- Identify inefficiencies and pilot automation solutions that reduce manual workload and improve accuracy.
- Collaborate with faculty, licensing staff, finance, developers, and central research offices to address compliance and data related inquiries.
- Provide timely, accurate data to support research security questions and evolving institutional requirements.
- Lead training, documentation updates, and knowledge sharing across the team and broader JHTV community.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
- Five years of relevant experience in compliance, data operations, research administration, or intellectual property. At least one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
- Experience with Bayh Dole, iEdison, or federal research compliance.
- Experience with Inteum, Salesforce, or relational data systems.
- Demonstrated success managing data heavy operations teams.
- Experience with automation tools, AI supported workflows, or business to developer translation.
