Job Summary

Our linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive Urban English material to English, collect, analyze, identify, and decode colloquialisms and slang, and communicate key information to law‑enforcement agents. The role includes transcribing source documents and recordings from storage media (audio cassettes, videocassettes, digital media).

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Urban English and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions.
  • Relate all pertinent information to the client during live projects.
  • Contribute to a master‑list of slang words and codes used by a specific group or organization.
  • Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
  • Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned.
  • Produce court‑ready transcriptions of calls, chats, and documents, following required format.
  • Use reference tools created during the project.
  • Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
  • Operate specialized software equipment (JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, etc.).
  • Maintain a daily log of productivity.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and ≥3 years of professional experience OR Associate degree and ≥5 years OR High School Diploma and ≥7 years.
  • At least 1 year of transcription experience in the required language.
  • Subject to government background investigation & must meet eligibility for classified information.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Knowledge of source‑language colloquialisms, SMS, social media, and Webchat.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in the target language (grammar, punctuation, spelling).
  • Score ≥3 on a third‑party Language Assessment (AE/DE/RE/WA) in English.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure, fast‑paced environment, and communicate effectively with law‑enforcement personnel.
  • Prioritize, time‑manage, meet deadlines, balance tasks, work in a team.
  • Technical direction & feedback from various sources.
  • Type ≥45 WPM.
Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Security Clearance.
  • Favorable credit check.
  • Successful background investigation, medical, drug screen.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident with ≥3 of 5 years in the U.S.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Standing/Walking/Mobility required for meetings.
  • Climbing/Kneeling: 0%-10% of time.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0%-10% of time.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling:
    Must write, type, use telephone system 100% of time.
  • Sitting: prolonged periods monitoring live/taped calls. Desk may be restricted during live monitoring/translating.
