Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Consult with divisional/departmental leadership on a broad range of issues including organizational development and structure, staff development, succession planning, employee relations issues, performance management, and HR policies and procedures.
- Advise, coach, and consult with managers and employees on issues including performance, terminations, sexual harassment, discrimination, career development, conflict resolution, change management, etc. Manage start to finish grievance process for area.
- Manage performance appraisal process, review appraisals for consistency, equity, and language. Review and recommend applicable salary actions.
- Collaborates with Talent Acquisition to meet departmental/divisional staffing needs.
- Serve on university committees/project teams as requested.
- Ensure that human resources practices comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and university policy.
- Advise, coach, consult and share best practice with managers and employees on issues including performance, terminations, discrimination/harassment, diversity and inclusion, staff development, employee engagement, conflict resolution, change management, etc.
- Work with stakeholders to establish and implement department/division-specific HR policies and procedures.
- Oversee payroll and student employment, as requested by departmental/divisional leadership.
- Manage performance appraisal process, review appraisals for consistency, equity, and language. Review and recommend performance rating and applicable salary action calibration.
- Facilitate specific onboarding and orientation of new staff hires, provide resources and support for new faculty onboarding.
- Support talent acquisition processes through consultation with and support of central recruiting experts ensuring the team is aware of and is responsive to local needs/requirements while still being consistent with university-wide practice.
- Facilitate the compensation processes of the business area, as directed by departmental/divisional leadership. This may include staff, students and faculty operating practices.
- Work to continuously improves HR practice in department or division to ensure increasing levels of efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
- Consult with leadership on a broad range of issues including employee relations, performance management, HR policies and procedures, compensation, benefits, organizational development and structure, staff development, and succession planning.
- Manages and/or supports projects focused on one or more areas of HR and may involve improvements to existing program or processes or developing new initiatives.
- Supervise related HR staff, as requested by leadership.
- Approve various HR transactions within SAP to establish hires, salary changes and personnel record updates.
- Generate SAP BW Analysis reports to track information, review salary equity, develop organization charts, and support data analytics needs of the operating area.
- May be responsible for budgetary responsibilities, as requested by leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field.
- Five years progressively responsible human resources management experience, including employee relations experience, preferably in a university setting.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Prior Human Resources Generalist experience highly desired.
- Prior experience with Workday HCM.
- Master's degree in human resources.
- Ability to work with and use current HR information technology, SAP, and Success Factors experience strongly preferred.
