ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant I demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the ages of patients served by their department. Additionally, the MAI demonstrates competency in applying these principles when providing individualized care to specific patients. Assists the MD/NP/PA in performing procedures. Operates, maintains and calibrates all equipment.
- Setting up and assisting with office procedures
- Chaperone providers during patient examination
- Taking pre-op and post-op photos of patients
- Maintaining surgical instruments and transporting instruments to Central Sterile (CSS)
- Processing surgical specimens and transporting them to Pathology
- Maintaining and stocking exam rooms
- ordering clinical supplies
- Completing FMLA and Disability forms
- Cleaning and resetting exam rooms
- Travel to satellite locations as needed
- Take patient vital signs, record medical histories, and update electronic health records (EHR)
- Administer injections, blood draws, and immunizations as directed by healthcare providers. (on-site training provided)
- Perform basic laboratory tests, including specimen collection and processing
- Provide patient education and instructions as directed by healthcare providers
- Drug/alcohol testing (training provided post hire)
- Physical examinations (audiogram - training provided, spirometry - training provided, and EKGs)
- Injury care (wound care, gait training)
Education and
Work Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of one year experience is preferred as a Medical Assistant or EMT-Paramedic
Specific Requirements:
- License Requirements: N/A
- Certification Requirements: CPR-preferred
- Age Specific Care Provided For: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Computer proficiency with the following tools:
- Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Microsoft Outlook
- Meditech (if applicable to position)
- Epic (if applicable to position)
- Performance Manager/Net Learning
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- Must be able to work independently and make independent decisions when necessary
- Effective communication and tact with staff, patients, physicians, and the public
- Flexibility, integrity, and teamwork
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Other Requirements: Travel to satellite offices
