- Primary duty of collecting specimens and performing phlebotomy for most in this role.
- Operates laboratory tests/waived laboratory tests (which may include but are not limited to occult and gastric blood tests, urine pH and urine volume determinations).
- Process samples which may include accessioning, receiving, aliquoting, and labeling; participate in review of laboratory activities.
- May operate and maintain automated pre-analytical instrumentation.
- Accurately records and reports results.
- Maintains supplies and inventory; insures clean and organized workspace/carts.
- Initiates or verifies proper actions to resolve problems.
- Reviews lab requisitions for accuracy and collects pertinent clinical and insurance information.
- May be responsible for entry of patient and laboratory information into assigned systems.
- May perform data entry, processing of specimens (in-house and referrals); billing functions; all pre-analytic set ups.
- Participates in Quality Assurance initiatives.
- Provides feedback to leadership regarding laboratory processes and participates in Process Improvement Initiatives.
- Phlebotomy and arterial blood collection are required skills.
- Maintains high level of competency for all required skills and knowledge.
- Participates in training new employees and auditing laboratory workflows and performance; delivers exceptional customer service to patients, medical providers, and laboratory & hospital staff.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent including high school level coursework in biology, chemistry, and mathematics.
- Completion of accredited laboratory or phlebotomy courses, highly desired. No certification required. Certification from a department approved agency counts toward experience equivalency where applicable.
Experience:
- Two years (full-time) on-the-job or outside experience as Laboratory Technician, with successful demonstration of required skills (probation completed at JHH in combination with other experience totaling 2+ years).
- 6 months minimum experience as a Laboratory Technician with verified Phlebotomy Certification may be considered in lieu of 2+ years of experience; certification must be kept active if used in lieu of experience for LT2 position.
- 6 months minimum experience as a Laboratory Technician with related Associates or Bachelor’s degree in science or healthcare, with demonstration of required skills.
- Clinical Laboratory Science students in final year of a 4-year accredited program may work as Clinical Laboratory Tech II/non-certified Phlebotomist and perform moderate complexity testing under supervision.

Salary Range: Minimum $16.75/hour - Maximum $31.33/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Salary discussions may occur during candidate screening calls where applicable.
