Overview
The Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) is a leader in chart abstraction, measure validation, and quality improvement initiatives reported to local, state, and national agencies. This role ensures accurate data submission for quality-related payment and recognition programs, including core measures, electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs), hospital-acquired conditions (HACs), patient safety indicators (PSIs), and mortality metrics.
The Sr. QIS operates with a high level of autonomy and independent judgment, collaborating with clinical and administrative teams to drive performance improvement. As a leader, the Sr. QIS has specialized expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) in areas such as quality payment and recognition program methodology, data collection, analysis, reporting, and education. Using clinical judgment and quality improvement methodologies, the Sr.
QIS assesses efficiency and effectiveness of patient care delivery and practice, and monitors compliance with established standards and external regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Lead chart abstraction and measure validation for quality improvement initiatives.
- Apply QI methodologies to improve processes and compliance.
- Ensure accurate data submission for quality-related payment and recognition programs.
- Conduct data analysis to assess clinical pertinence and compliance with evidence-based medicine.
- Facilitate discussions with multidisciplinary teams to drive performance improvement.
- Educate and train clinical providers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with analytics, informatics, and documentation teams.

Salary and BenefitsSalary Range: Minimum 41.70/hour - Maximum 68.85/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or relevant field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Requires five years equivalent full-time clinical experience as registered nurse, MD, PA or relevant clinical position.
- Requires a minimum of at least three years of experience in medical record auditing, abstracting or validation with familiarity in HACs/MHACs, PSIs, Core Measures, eCQMs, and risk adjustment.
- Licensed in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or licensure in a related healthcare position.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting for quality improvement
- Proficiency with QI methodologies and application of performance improvement tools to improve processes
- Strong ability to problem-solve creatively and analyze processes and systems.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Expertise in negotiation, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience in training and education related to quality improvement methodologies.
