Main Purpose of JobThe main purpose of this part‑time contractual position is to provide support and training to people with developmental disabilities, enabling them to advocate for themselves, assist with questions and concerns from individuals who receive DDA funding, and provide outreach and education to community organizations. Communication will occur by phone, email, and in person.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
- Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Candidates must possess at least one year of experience as a self‑advocate for developmental or intellectual disabilities.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience in outreach to other self‑advocates, self‑advocacy groups and other organizations.
- Experience developing and conducting training.
- Experience as a role model and mentor for peers in learning and using self‑advocacy skills.
- Experience working independently.
Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

BENEFITSContractual employees who meet the eligibility criteria may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. The State of Maryland will subsidize 75% of the cost of these benefits, with the employee responsible for 25% of the premiums.
