Pay Range: $210,000 - $240,000 per year

Morgan State University seeks a collaborative and forward‑thinking leader to serve as the Medical Director of the University Health Center (UHC). This newly established full‑time role reflects the University’s significant growth and commitment to strengthening student health and well‑being and offers an opportunity to help build the next phase of student healthcare  UHC currently provides on‑campus primary medical services and coordinates access to off‑campus and specialty care through community partnerships.

The Center also delivers health education to promote wellness and administers the student health insurance plan.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care and offers clinical consultation to UHC staff to support effective patient management. Coordinates on‑campus care with community providers, medical centers, and local Departments of Health, serving as the primary medical liaison to University departments and external agencies. Supports campus health promotion efforts and collaborates with the CARE Team to address medical‑related crises, such as disease outbreaks and emergency preparedness needs.
  • Leads the Health Center Leadership Team on development and administration of clinical programs by evaluating clinician performance, patient feedback, and ongoing communication with the clinical team. Oversees the review and refinement of standardized clinical procedures and establishes quality‑control methods to support continuous evaluation of clinical competence. Collaborates with the Leadership Team to guide medical decision‑making and ensure effective oversight of laboratory services, pharmaceutical services, and overall patient care operations.
  • Reviews patient charts to ensure clinical staff maintain accurate, complete, and compliant documentation in alignment with EHR standards. Implements a peer review process to assess the appropriateness and quality of patient care.
  • Leads strategic planning and assessment efforts in collaboration with the Leadership Team to inform capital planning, program development, and ongoing enhancement of medical services. Establishes annual goals, learning outcomes, and priorities in alignment with the Student Affairs strategic plan. Serves as an active member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), the CARE Team, and other University committees, and partners with University Counseling Center leadership to address challenges and promote seamless, integrated care for students.
  • Collaborates with the Leadership Team to ensure communication and compliance with all relevant regulatory boards and governing agencies (MD Board of Registered Nursing, OSHA, AAAHC), while monitoring health outcomes against state‑regulated standards and recommending or implementing necessary adjustments. Maintains active medical licensure and demonstrates ongoing professional expertise, and serves as a leader in national and state discussions on student health and wellness—advocating for the unique health needs of a globally diverse student population through the delivery of high‑quality, student‑centered care.
  • Ensures the Health Center operates efficiently and effectively by providing overall direction and support. Collaborates with the UHR Leadership Team on HR‑related actions involving staff hiring, development, and discipline in accordance with University policies and procedures. Works with the Leadership Team to develop staffing plans for the academic year and break periods, balancing staff capacity and patient needs to ensure timely access to care.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required in response to urgent student medical needs and campus medical crises.

Education
  • Must hold a Medical Doctor (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), or Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) degree from an accredited institution, with completion of an accredited post‑doctoral residency or advanced clinical training program appropriate to the…
