About the RoleThe Infection Preventionist at Sinai Hospital is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees about infection prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection control standards that meet Joint Commission, OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally recognized recommendations and requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Infection Surveillance and Risk Assessment - Lead and coordinate infection surveillance activities using electronic medical records and surveillance systems to identify healthcare-associated infections, adverse outcomes, and reportable conditions; assess risks and recommend timely actions to prevent transmission and ensure patient safety.
- Clinical Consultation, Compliance Monitoring, and Performance Improvement - Serve as the infection prevention subject-matter expert for clinical staff, committees, and performance improvement teams; conduct rounds to evaluate compliance with infection prevention practices, regulatory requirements, and guidelines, and support data analysis and epidemiologic projects.
- Education, Guidelines, and Professional Leadership - Develop and deliver infection prevention education for all levels of personnel, including new employee orientation; apply current regulatory and professional society guidelines through literature review and ongoing professional development, and contribute to scholarly and professional dissemination of infection prevention knowledge.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Biology, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology, or Master of Public Health (MPH) required
- Licensure: RN – Current or compact RN licensure in the state of Maryland; MT – Current generalist/specialty certification by a nationally recognized board/agency required
- Certification: Must obtain CIC within 3 years of hire if not currently certified
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in acute care hospital or similar health care experience required. One year of Infection Prevention experience, preferred
