Position Summary/Scope of Responsibility

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nation’s largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The Radiology Technologist assists physicians to identify illnesses and injuries through using diagnostic X-Ray imaging equipment. The Radiology Technologist duties also include explaining procedures to patients, calibrating imaging equipment, and preparing results.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician and/or physician assistant.
  • Determines proper technique through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time.
  • Position patients for the proper view of the affected area
  • Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure
  • Maintains technique charts in rooms in compliance with the law.
  • Utilizes proper procedures, equipment and established protocols.
  • Provides preventive maintenance to equipment and monitors its operation.
  • Contacts nursing stations to verify patient schedules and special requirements or restrictions.
  • Assesses the patient’s condition prior to performing the radiographic procedure.
  • Completes X-ray requests for billing as assists with Radiologic CPT Codes.
  • Discusses Radiologic examination results with the departmental supervisor or professional personnel.
  • Ensure that any required consent forms are signed prior to examination.
  • Actively participates in the Quality Assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
  • Responsible for taking images, sending, billing, and maintaining records.
  • Monitors and orders supplies needed by the Radiology department.
  • Provides images and reports to physicians for surgery in a timely manner.
  • Advices supervisor and medical staff of any problems with X-ray procedures, efficiency, safety and overall service.
  • Follows all State and Local Regulations including OSHA, HIPAA, and QA Protocol.
  • Assists the clinical staff as time allows.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience .

  • ARRT Certification; must have Maryland, Virginia and/or DC State Licensure as applicable to the position.
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • 2+ years of medical office experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to promote positive relationships with CAO and non-CAO physicians and other personnel.
  • Clinical competence as assessed during initial probationary period and evaluated at minimum annually thereafter.
  • Excellent customer service and patient experience skills.
  • Proficiency in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Able to work independently.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and charting in same.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
  • Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.
