Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Gallagher Services, a program of Catholic Charities of Baltimore.

Pay Range: $19.50 – $20 per hour (based on experience)

Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm (part‑time)

Gallagher Services provides residential, day, and respite support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford Counties, and Baltimore City. The DSP works in the client’s home and community setting, assisting with daily activities, personal care, and supports for independent living.

• Provides hands‑on assistance in the home, including individualized supports for transferring, bathing, dressing, grooming, and following specific dining protocols.
• Assists with meal preparation, laundry, and other household chores.
• Uses Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) to prevent and intervene in behaviors.
• Attends medical appointments, emergency visits, and contacts on‑call nursing, while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
• Maintains knowledge of Nursing Plans of Care, feeding protocols, universal precautions, and safety practices.
• Completes all required trainings within 3 months of hire and administers medications according to the Medication Technician Training Program and applicable regulations.
• Attends Person‑Centered Planning (PCP) meetings and accurately documents all relevant logs in the agency’s case‑management software.
• Encourages clients’ participation in daily activities to promote independence and self‑determination.
• Maintains the home and agency vehicles through seasonal maintenance and routine cleaning.
• Attends required events, workshops, trainings, and meetings, and performs other duties as assigned.

• Valid health certification as required by funding jurisdiction.
• Ability to lift and transfer up to 75 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Hearing and vision within normal limits (corrected) for safe driving and communication.
• May be required to work outside scheduled hours, travel between locations, and drive an agency vehicle.
• Driver must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver’s license with at least 2 years of experience, and have no more than 3 points on their driving record.

• Comfortable driving agency vehicles and assisting individuals who use wheelchairs.
• Maintains a safe environment for clients and coworkers.
• Strong interpersonal skills: empathy, compassion, and effective communication.
• Basic computer and software skills for documentation, including Microsoft Office and web browsing.
• Written communication: clear and effective reporting, diaries, and logs.

• Minimum age 21 years.
• Valid driver’s license and minimum 2 years of driving experience with no more than 3 points.
• Comfortable driving agency vehicles and assisting individuals in wheelchairs.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Completion of Medication Technician Training Program (or willingness to complete).
