Nocturnist Physician Assistant (Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine)
We are seeking a Nocturnist Physician Assistant at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to serve as an independent clinician within a team setting, providing ICU-level care to patients in the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital. The role is a 100% night shift position, responsible for delivering neuro ICU care during the night.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments for critically ill adults in the Neuro Critical Care Unit.
- Record and document assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and expedite required services.
- Perform history and physical examinations, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings.
- Identify differential diagnosis.
Establishes a Plan of Care including:
- Order appropriate laboratory, radiographic, and other studies.
- Interpret results of laboratory, radiographic, and other studies.
- Perform tests and procedures within the scope of practice.
- Develop a plan of care related to patient’s identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures.
- Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary.
Implements Plan of Care safely and effectively, which will include:
- Prescribe and regulate medications and perform other related procedures within the medical staff scope of practice.
- Record patient visits/interactions concisely, clearly, logically, and timely.
- Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed.
- Triage patient telephone calls, messages, and interactions appropriately.
- Track patient compliance with the treatment plan.
Organizes workload to meet patient and organizational needs, including:
- Utilize time management to see patients efficiently as identified by departmental goals.
- Maintain consistent productivity; identify problems that impede overall functioning and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Work collaboratively with the health team to facilitate smooth operations of the unit.
Communicates with healthcare team members to ensure patient and organizational needs are met, which will include:
- Supervise the activities of team members as appropriate.
- Identify areas of weakness in operational systems and make recommendations for improvements.
- Communicate significant information in an organized, logical, and concise manner to co-workers.
- Provide constructive feedback concerning performance appropriately.
- Adhere to the confidentiality policy as outlined in the interdisciplinary Clinical Practice Manual.
- Make recommendations to administrative leadership regarding clinic operations.
- Analyze research findings and current trends in the specialty area and apply them to improve patient care management.
Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary team:
- Support the orientation of newly hired nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students.
- Support the education of the interdisciplinary team.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure organizational goals are met:
- Support quality and safety initiatives.
- Support the institution’s core values.
- Bachelor’s Degree;
Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body;
Completion of a CAAHEP-certified Physician Assistant program. - Must be licensed as a PA in the state of Maryland or in the state where practicing.
- Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, to the extent permitted by the Johns Hopkins equivalency formula.
